Yrjö Kukkapuro

Born in Finland in 1933, Yrjö Kukkapuro is a key figure in 20th-century furniture design and a leading designer of Finnish functionalism. Over the course of a career spanning more than 70 years since the mid-1950s, Kukkapuro has produced a host of iconic pieces, ranging from the pioneering Moderno Chair family of 1956 to the avant-garde exuberance of Experiment. Characterized by aesthetic and functional innovation and a focus on ergonomics, Kukkapuro’s designs are on display in permanent exhibitions at the MoMA in New York and the V&A in London.
